Sometimes it can be difficult to find a parking space in downtown Yakima. This is odd because there are over 4,600 parking spaces downtown - more than enough to meet everyone's needs.
Our problem has been that people have been using short-term parking spaces to park their cars all day long. These short-term spaces are, for the most part, the ones located closest to downtown shops, restaurants, banks, and government buildings, and they are intended to to accommodate those who have short-term business downtown. When these short-term spaces are tied-up for the entire day, their use is denied to people who need to park downtown to shop, dine, and conduct their business - in other words, to people like you!
By adjusting the parking time limits on downtown parking, and by enhancing the level of downtown parking enforcement, the City of Yakima is freeing up space so people like you can park more easily and conveniently. By initiating these changes - We're Making Space For You!
